The English for Professionals Course is designed to meet the needs of working
adults who need English for both business and social requirements. This course will enable
students to develop their English communication skills in all areas. Course materials have
been selected to be particularly relevant to professional people. Although much of the
emphasis is on business English, the course takes into account the fact that most students
need English for a wide variety of purposes, such as: socialising, travel, telephoning,
meeting and greeting visitors, and writing both formal and informal letters. The four
learning skills reading, writing, listening and speaking are thoroughly
practised throughout. The English for Professionals Course is a two-level course for
Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate students. Each student is supplied with a students
book, while the teacher has a teachers book, a workbook to provide
supplementary ideas and an audio cassette. Furthermore, the teacher can draw on the
considerable resources of the ECC library in order to provide supplementary material as
and when required.
Pre-Intermediate
This course provides a wide range of materials, activities and exercises based on the
requirements of adult professional learners. Students will be introduced to and will
revise all main structures of the English language. They will be given considerable
opportunity to develop their reading, writing, listening and particularly their speaking
skills.
Students will cover the following functions: introductions and greetings, making
appointments, giving opinions and suggestions, agreeing and disagreeing, making offers and
requests, asking for information and telephone skills.
On completion of this course, students will have greatly increased their range of
vocabulary, acquired familiarity with most aspects of English grammar and gained a greater
confidence in their ability to comprehend and communicate in business and social English.
Intermediate
At this level, students are expected to be familiar with a wide range of English grammar.
Emphasis at this point is on revising this grammar and expanding the students
knowledge of the functions and uses of English. Intermediate learners need extensive
practise in producing English in order to activate and expand their knowledge. The course
provides students with a variety of tasks which enable them to improve their speaking,
listening, reading and writing skills. On completion of this course, students can expect
to be competent and confident users of English, capable of handling complex language in
both formal and informal situations. |
