Local Area Networks (LAN) are systems that link several computers together on a
single network. LAN systems are widely used in todays companies and organisations as
a cost-effective way for computers to communicate with each other, exchange files and
data, use common devices such as printers, faxes and other peripherals, as well as
transfer data rapidly and accurately to be saved in a central server. Apart from enabling each department of an organisation to share
common files, the network is also able to provide access levels for each user, in order to
separate certain types of data from other departments. This control of access level
conserves hard disk space at each terminal, maintains the safety and security of data, and
facilitates the reservation of disk space for future data requirements as well.
First Training offers classes in design, installation and
maintenance of LAN systems for administrators, and classes in file management, running
programs and system operation of LAN systems for users on the network, using either Novel
Netware or Windows NT operating systems.
Novel Netware
This class is designed for students who want to learn how to install the Netware and a
Server system; add workstations to the network and organise appropriate drives and files
in the Server. The class will cover the basics of a Netware system environment,
partitioning file server, print server and communication server; cables and wiring,
communication protocols and using the Netware shell.
Windows NT
This class is designed for students who want to learn how to install and operate a local
area network using the 32-bit Windows NT operating system. Students will learn how to set
up an NT Server, use groups to manage users, monitor performance of the network, measure
resource demand and conduct problem-solving in network applications. |
